 Year 4 Work Based Assessments

The Royal College of Radiologists is currently developing a full programme of work based assessments for each year of training for diagnostic radiology. These will include

DOPs

Directly Observed Procedures

CbD

Case Based Discussions

Mini-CEX

Mini Clinical Exercises

MSF

Multi-Source Feedback (360 appraisal)

DADRS

Direct Assessment of Diagnostic Radiological Skills (eg Emergency Radiology Assessment at end of year 1)

The initial trials of these assessments are under way. The RCR will agree the finalised assessments with PMETB in due course.

Present RCR Portfolio

Until the new work based assessments are published, all trainees should continue to work with the existing assessment methods in the current RCR portfolio. These include the practical skills given in each modality in the Form 3s.

The two 6 month ‘general’ attachments in Year 4 should enable all StRs to complete their general radiology training – with enough competencies so that they can safely join a general on call rota at a District General Hospital, and also fulfil general radiology sessions as a consultant, as well as any sub-speciality interests they may have.

By the end of Year 4 each trainee should use their Forms 3, so that they have:-
  • Over 85% of competencies signed to Level 4
