The post is for two years, Years 5 and 6 of training. STRs are eligible to apply for the post to commence after they have completed 4 years of general radiology training, and having passed FRCR. They have to extend their training from 5 to 6 years, and obtain CCT at the end of their 6th year. Once they have taken this step, the CCT date can not be brought forward. The post is advertised nationally when it becomes vacant.
There is a year 5 sub-speciality vascular and interventional post based at Southmead Hospital. The post has an unusual strength in that it combines a ‘traditional’ vascular radiology training with some aspects of a vascular surgeon’s training. The post holder works closely with a Surgery STR, sharing clinics, intervention lists and operating time. The resulting training gives the post holder a unique experience of combining radiological and vascular surgery techniques.
The post is for Year 5 STRs who have completed 4 years general radiology training, and who hold FRCR. Dr Mark Thornton at Southmead Hospital should be contacted early in the 4th Year by any STR who would like to know more about this unique training option.
