At Weston the trainee’s timetable is tailored to their training needs and to optimise the experience available at the trust. They become integral members of the team during their stay, and as Weston is a relatively small department there is ample opportunity to observe and perform large volumes of imaging of various types. The trainees are well supervised and the radiologists are committed to teaching.
The Consultant Radiologists and their interests/expertise:
Dr Gavin Stoddart – musculo-skeletal U/S and MRI, plain films, nuclear medicine,
Dr Tricia Woodhead – Cross-sectional imaging, chest
Dr Koshy Jacob - Cross-sectional imaging, musculo-skeletal
Dr Chris Cook – Interventional and cross-sectional, upper GI, Vascular
Dr John 0’Brien – cross- sectional, lower GI
Dr Sue King – paediatric and gynaecology
Dr Stoddart is the Head of School of Radiology, Severn Deanery, and Dr Cook is the Regional Post Graduate Educational Advisor to the Royal College of Radiologists. Dr Stoddart is the acting Educational Supervisor.
On-site there is CT scanning, screening, ultrasound, mammography . For three days a week there is on-site MRI. A new 64 slice CT scanner and 1.5T MRI scanner are currently being installed. The clinical opportunities are varied for each trainees but include :-
Excellent supervised plain film reporting, ultrasound including obstetrics and gynaecology, musculoskeletal US and MRI, Barium and other screening. We encourage the trainees to run and report their own lists when we feel they are able.
A busy symptomatic breast service offering trainees good exposure to a range of breast cases.
CT of many types including emergency medicine and trauma, non-vascular interventional cases.
Attendance at multidisciplinary meetings.
